Abstract
1421793 Injecting gas into molten metal ELECTRICITY COUNCIL 20 May 1974 [20 June 1973] 29303/73 Heading F4B An injector plug, through which gas is to be injected into a vessel of molten metal, has a gas permeable but metal impermeable central portion 15 surrounded by a two-part structure consisting of a refractory facing 16 to withstand contact with molten metal, and a material 17 such as plumbag selected so that no bonding occurs with the vessel refractory wall. A conical bush of refractory material 12 may be fitted in the vessel refractory lining 11. The refractory facing 16 may be coated with a release material 18 such as carbon, chromic oxide or calcium aluminate.
