Abstract

1452910 Injecting gas into molten metal ELECTRICITY COUNCIL 25 Oct 1974 [24 Oct 1973] 49505/73 Heading F4B A unit for injecting gas into molten metal in a furnace comprises a gas impermeable ceramic tube 10 with a refractory nozzle 11 at the furnace end of the tube and a cylindrical porous plug 12 of refractory material in the tube behind the nozzle. Gas is injected through a port 24 in a cap 25. The tube is set by refractory cement 17 in a refractory cast block 18 secured in the furnace wall, the nozzle protruding beyond the inner face of the wall into the molten metal. The bore of the nozzle may be parallel or divergent, and opens at the rear end into a chamber 13 receiving gas from the porous plug.
