Abstract

1421585 Combine harvester reaping units DEERE & CO 23 Feb 1973 [23 Feb 1972] 9028/73 Heading A1F The drive mechanism for reciprocating the cutter bar 1 and rotating the intake roller 12 is partially accommodated in the space provided at the end of the intake roller 12 by making the intake roller 12 shorter than the cutter bar 1, the portion of the crop out by the end part of the cutter bar 1 extending beyond the intake roller 12 being guided towards the intake roller 12 by an inclined wall 27a of a cover plate 27. The intake roller 12 may be an auger roller. In Fig. 1, the wobble drive shaft 10 carries a pulley 18 (or toothed wheel) engaged by a V- belt 19 (or chain) driven by a pulley 20 (or toothed wheel) on a driving axle 23. The intake roller shaft 11 is keyed to a pulley 25 (or toothed wheel) connected by a V-belt 26 with a pulley 26 (or toothed wheel) connectable via a slip coupling 21 with the driving axle 23. The inner end of the wobble drive shaft 10 is journalled at 15 within an extension tube 13 fixed to the intake roller shaft 11, and the tube 13 is journalled at 16 in drive housing 6. The outer end of the shaft 10 is journalled at 17 in the housing 6. Flanges 30 welded to the shaft 11 are bolted to flanges on a single cylindrical member 28 screwed to the intake roller 12. Alternatively, an inner cylindrical member may be welded to a bushing on the shaft 11 and an outer cylindrical member bolted to a flange 30. In Fig. 4 (not shown), the intake roller shaft 11 is journalled in a bore in the wobble drive shaft 10 which is journalled in the housing 6. The wobble drive pulley 18 is disposed on the shaft 10 in the space between the intake roller 12 and wobble drive 3, and the intake roller pulley 25 is mounted in the space on an end part of the intake roller. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the intake roller 12 and wobble drive 3 have a single shaft received in two sets of bearings in the cylindrical member 28 and in the inner side of the housing 6, and journalled at its end in the housing 6. Only the pulley 25 is provided on the shaft (11'), in the space at the end of the intake roller. The shaft (11') is connected directly to the wobble plate 4 but via an epicyclic gear 32 within the cylindrical member 28 to the intake roller 12.
