[Also in Division F1] In a screw pump, e.g. for liquid manure, which in use is disposed in an upright manner to raise the manure from a pit or reservoir, the casing 10 has an upwardly extending delivery spout 26 and extends above outlet aperture 24 to form an accumulator chamber for collecting straw or hay carried by the manure. Alternatively, as shown, the chamber may contain a screw 28 of opposite hand to screw 12, to prevent straw or hay from collecting in the immediate vicinity of the outlet aperture. The casing may have a closable access opening therein for cleaning the chamber. A supporting frame 40 provided at the upper end of the casing has a cross-shaft 44 about which the pump can be pivoted to raise it from or lower it into the pit. Shaft 44 may be linked to the lifting hitch of a tractor or connected to the back of the manure tanker described in either of Specifications 1,084,249 and 1,170,797. The pump may discharge into the manure tanker via a flexible hose. Frame 40 may carry drive transmission means such as a gear-box, universal joints, belts and pulleys. Pump shaft 16 may be driven by an electric or petrol motor carried by the frame, or it may be driven by the power-take-off shaft of a tractor. The pump shaft is mounted in bearings 18, 20. Bearing 20 is lubricated via a pipe 38. A chopper blade assembly 32 may be supplied with water or other liquid via a pipe 36.
