Abstract
1421564 Cam followers; valves REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT and AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT 31 July 1973 [14 Sept 1972] 36447/73 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2] In an I.C. engine overhead cam-shaft gear, the usual inverted bracket type cam follower (2), Fig. 1 (not shown) is eliminated by directly engaging the cam 1, via a clearance adjuster disc 6, with the end of a poppet valve 9, the valve 9 having a relatively large diameter hollow guide stem 15 supporting the valve against radial thrust produced by the cam action. The clearance adjuster disc 6 may be either centered by its outer peripheral edge in the valve spring collar 11 (Fig. 2B) or by a stud 17, on the disc, engaged in the end of the hollow guide stem 15 (Fig. 2A).
