Abstract

1421297 Hot plate units ENVIRONMENT ONE CORP 8 Feb 1973 6140/73 Heading F4W [Also in Divisions A4 and H3-H5] A combined counter and electric cooking unit using induction heating coils comprises a housing 11 having a substantially continuous smooth top 12 of insulating material and supporting a plurality of induction heating coils 17, 18, beneath the insulating top, and infra-red heat sensors froming part of the heating coil control circuitry which can sense through window areas 16 the temperature of metal based cookware 19 placed on the cooking unit to control the temperature by means of control units 21, 22. The insulating top may be made of plastics material, glass, marble, slate, stone, wood or ceramic material. The window areas 16 may be openings in the insulating top, which openings may be filled with an infra-red transparent material to make the top surface continuous for easy cleaning. In a further embodiment at least one heating coil and its associated housing part and circuitry is removable to allow its use at a remote location from the counter and cooking unit. The induction heating coils may be remotely controlled by radio or ultrasonics.
