1420817 Sheet forming CARL MUNTERS AB 17 April 1973 [5 May 1972] 18495/73 Heading B5A [Also in Division D1] Apparatus for continuously diagonally corrugating a web 62 of sheet material by feeding the web into a mould formed by plates 26 movable in an endless path and having diagonally arranged grooves 40, each plate 26 having two opposed edges 42, 44 extending parallel to the grooves 40 and transverse to the direction of travel 35 of the web. As shown, the rhomboidic-shape, preferably perforated, plates 26 are connected to driven chains 24 via rollers 32 which roll on a guideway 38. Rollers 34, free of the chains 24, are also secured to the plates 26. When a plate 26<SP>1</SP> reaches the right hand end of Fig. 1, its rear rollers 34 descend through apertures 46 and follow curved cams 48 and pass therefrom to an inclined track 50 whilst the rollers 32 pass around sprockets 21. The plate is returned to its starting position by the rollers 34 running up guide ways 54 each of which is interrupted by a flap 56 and between each of which and a curved cam 58 is formed a space sufficient for the passage of the rollers 34. The flaps 56 are spring urged against the cams 58. The rollers 32 pass around sprockets 20. The web 62, of asbestos or cellulosic fibre material which may be impregnated with a substance for increasing its mechanical strength, e.g. plastics material, is fed to a forming head 64 having battens 66 parallel to the grooves 40, as described in Specification 1,194,002. After being pressed by the head 64 into the grooves 40, the web passes beneath a radiation-type heating device 68 and above a such on chamber 70. After removal from the plates, the web may be severed into individual sheets. Alternatively, the forming head may be constructed as described in Specification 1,257,411.
