Abstract

1420718 Water tube boilers H VORKAUF 22 Feb 1974 [23 Feb 1973] 8238/74 Heading F4A A horizontally extending water tube boiler comprises a combustion chamber 1 and an adjoining convection section 2 which have floor roof and side walls defined by L-shaped tubes 6 extending between headers 5 and 7 and tube baffles 11 and 15 which cause combustion gases to move upwardly and downwardly through flues 2, 2<SP>1</SP> in the convection section over tubular heating surfaces connected to the side wall tubes. Baffle 11 is shown in Fig. 6-tubes extend from the roof of the boiler to a horizontal header 12 spaced from the floor and supplied with water through branch tubes 13. The baffle 15 is similar except that combustion gases can pass between the baffle and the roof. The headers 5 and 7 are linked to a separating drum 3 via risers 8 and down corners 4 and the rises 8 are located so that they lie within the plane of the baffles 11, 15. The heating surfaces (21, Fig. 4, not shown) located in the convection section can be either U-shaped tubes or continuous loop tubes, and a preheater of plain or finned tubes can be located in the convection section. Throttling means 22, 22<SP>1</SP> are mounted in the header 5 to control water flow.
