Abstract

1420553 Reinforcing pins LEE-NORSE CO 12 March 1974 [16 April 1973] 10962/74 Heading F2H A reinforcing pin to be driven into a mine or tunnel roof has an elongate shank 12 with an enlarged leading end portion 18 having a blunt end face 14 which may be flat, Fig. 1, or concave, Fig. 3. The pin has an enlarged head 24 at its rear end and the shank 12 tapers over part or all of its length from the head towards the leading end so that the circumference of the shank over most of its length is less than that of the enlarged end portion 18. The blunt leading end is stated to minimize the risk of the pin deviating from its desired path as it is driven through faulted strata. The pin may be made in one piece; as shown, or may have two or more sections joined end-to-end.
