775,754. Roof-supporting bars in mines. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE AKT.-GES., [formerly GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE OBERHAUSEN AKT.-GES.] Dec. 18, 1952 [Jan. 16, 1952], No. 32130/52. Class 20(2) In order to provide large range of angular movement of an advance mine roof bar 2 pivoted on a propped bar 1 using a single horizontal transverse wedge 4 passing through and engaging a slot 9 in the bar 2 the end of the bar 1 is formed as a toothed segment 5 and teeth 11 on the wedge 4 are engaged selectively higher or lower in the segment 5 according to the angular position required for the bar 2. The teeth 11 are inclined lengthwise with respect to the upper bearing edge of the wedge 4 in such a way that the bar 2 is tilted upwardly as the wedge is driven in. The wedge 4 is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bar 2 but it may be arranged to extend at an acute angle to the bar axis to provide larger bearing surfaces for the teeth 5, 11.
