Abstract

1419790 Amorphous elastomeric ethylene copolymers CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 4 May 1973 [5 May 1972] 21214/73 Addition to 1415898 Heading C3P Amorphous elastomeric copolymers of ethylene are produced by copolymerizing ethylene with propylene and/or butene-1 and optionally with a multiolefin (e.g. dicyclopentadiene, ethylidene norbornene or 1,4-hexadiene) in the liquid phase in the presence of a chlorine containing organoaluminium compound and a halogeno ortho titanic acid ester at 30‹ to 150‹ C. in a solvent containing (a) more than 30 and up to 99 mole per cent propylene and/or butene- 1 (b) butane and/or propane and (c) butene-2. The titanium ester may be formed in situ from a titanium tetrahalide and an ortho titanic acid ester. In the examples copolymers of ethylene and propylene, ethylene and butene and terpolymers of ethylene, propylene and hexadiene 14 are produced using ethyl aluminium sesquichloride and dichlorotitanic acid dipropyl ester or a mixture of titanium tetrapropylate and TiCl 4 .
