Abstract
1431918 Production of ethylene copolymers using an organometallic catalyst CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 10 Aug 1973 [11 Aug 1972] 38038/73 Heading C3P Amorphous elastomeric low pressure copolymers of ethylene with propylene and/or butene-1 and optionally a multi-olefin are prepared by copolymerization in the liquid phase in the presence of a mixed catalyst comprising a titanium trichloride catalyst and a chlorine-containing organo-aluminium compound, at a temperature of 80‹ to 120‹ C. in a solvent which contains butane and/or propane and also A mole per cent of propylene and/or B mole per cent of butene-1, and butene-2, and in which 2A+B at a temperature of 80-90‹ C. is at least 30 and at a temperature of 90-120‹ C. is at least 20. The multiolefin may be dicyclopentadiene, methylene norbornene, ethylidene norbornene or hexa-1,4-diene. Hydrogen may be added during the polymerization. The chlorine-containing organo-aluminium compound may be ethyl aluminium sesquichloride- [Al(C 2 H 5 ) 1 . 5 Cl 1 . 5 ]. In the examples, C 4 cuts are used, which contain varying amounts of butene- 1, butene-2, and butane.
