Abstract
1460795 Butene-1 polymerization CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 11 April 1974 [14 April 1973] 16135/74 Heading C3P Butene-1 is homopolymerized or copolymerized with up to 10% of other monomers in butene-1 itself as reaction medium or in a C 4 fraction containing butene-1 at 60‹ to 120‹ C. and in the presence of a catalyst comprising (a) TiCl 3 .n.AlCl 3 where n is 0À2 to 0À6 and (b) a mixture of 85 to 99À9 mol per cent of a dialkyl aluminium monochloride and 0À1 to 15 mol per cent of an aluminium trialkyl. The mixture of organoaluminium compounds (b) may be separately added to the isolated component (a) or the component (a) is prepared by reducing TiCl 4 with Et 3 Al 2 Cl 3 followed by addition of sufficient of a trialkyl aluminium to the resulting mixture of TiCl 3 .n.AlCl 3 and EtAlCl 2 to convert the latter to Et 2 AlOl and to leave a suitable quantity of unreacted trialkyl aluminium, thus forming the catalyst of (a) + (b) in situ.
