Abstract
1419419 Mixing fluids; precipitating-apparatus SOC MINERARIA E METALLURGICA DI PERTUSOLA 29 June 1973 [30 June 1972] 31239/73 Headings B1C and B1X [Also in Division C7] A zinc-plating solution containing metal impurities is purified by agitating the solution with Zn granules to remove the impurities as precipitates. The solution is pumped from reservoir 4 through pipe 6 to the lower chamber 1 of a cementation column having a rotary cage 14. The solution rises through chamber 1 and reacts with Zn granules fed through pipe 10, the impurities precipitating briefly on the granules before scaling off as the granules collide in the turbulent conditions caused by the rotating cage 14. The solution passes into the upper chamber 2 having a rotating cage 15 where the reaction continues before passing into a filter 20 and being recycled or returned to the plating bath. The feed of solution through pipe 6 is controlled by flowmeter 37 acting upon valve 7, and the supply of granules by manometer 29. Activators may be injected at 30, 31, 32, and the upper chamber 2 contains sampling outlets 33, 34.
