Abstract

141,790. Guest, L. G. W., and Merriman, H. O. Jan. 18, 1919. Thermionic relays.-Relates to apparatus for recording sound by telephonic transmission and amplification, and consists in employing an instrument of the kind described in Specification 18765/13 as the receiver and recorder of the telephonic transmission, preferably in combination with thermionic relays in the telephone circuit. As shown in the figure, the battery circuit b includes three telephone transmitters a, a<1>, a<2> in parallel and a transformer primary coil c. The secondary coil c' is connected between the filament p and grid t of a thermionic valve l<1>, the piate circuit of which includes switch contacts o and battery n. This plate circuit is also coupled through a transformer u to the grid-filament circuit of a second valve m<1>, the plate circuit of which includes other switch contacts o and the battery n. By means of the switch o the coil k of the recording instrument f can be connected in either plate circuit. The filaments p are energized by a battery q through a resistance r, and the normal potential of the grids t is determined by connecting them to a point on the potentiometer s.
