Abstract

1417718 Catalytic converter for exhaust gas TENNECO INC 27 Nov 1972 [14 Dec 1971] 54710/72 Heading B1F A method of making a catalytic converter for use in exhaust systems of I.C. engines includes the steps of inserting a frangible porous refractory catalyst element into a tubular metal shell with an annular resilient non-metallic fibrous heat-insulating layer extending beyond an end of the element and located between the element and shell and bending said extending end of the layer over an outer edge of the element. The non-metallic layer may be of alumina-silica felted fibres, asbestos or ceramic fibres. It may extend beyond and be bent over both ends of the element, and may be impregnated with colloidal silica or another inorganic binder.
