Abstract
1417565 Falling film and spray evaporation: concentrating anthraquinones OXSYNTHESE 16 Nov 1972 [18 Nov 1971] 53053/72 Heading B1B [Also in Division Cl] A working solution used in a cyclic process for the manufacture of H 2 O 2 employing anthraquinones is regenerated in an apparatus which has a falling film evaporator 9 with a first outlet for distillate and a second outlet for liquid residue for distilling off the solvent from the working solution, a first condenser 11 the inlet of which is connected via pipe 2 to evaporator 9, a second falling film evaporator 20 for distilling the solvent-free liquid extract from the base of evaporator 9, the inlet of which is connected via pipe 3 to the second outlet of evaporator 9, and a second condenser 16 having two inlets, the first inlet being connected to the outlet of the first condenser 11 and the second inlet being connected to the vapour outlet of the second evaporator 20 via pipe 5. The outlet of the second condenser is connected to or connectible with the hydrogenation stage of the cyclic process and the second condenser comprises a heat exchanger having a wall one side of which is contacted with cooling fluid in the form of water or brine while the other side is in communication with the first and second inlets of condenser 16. The arrangement is such that liquid entering condenser 16 via the first inlet from line 15 can be sprayed on to the other side of the wall and vaporised material in the form of quinones and light degraded products entering condenser 16 via the second inlet from line 5 can be contacted with the liquid film of solvent derived from the first inlet and already on the other wall, the condensate obtained at the base of the other side of the wall being the regenerated working solution. Regenerated working solution is withdrawn through pipe 6.
