Abstract

1417142 Lift tank attachments RE BARKER & CO Ltd 15 Feb 1973 [22 Feb 1972] 8111/72 Heading B8H [Also in Division E2] An attachment for a lifting vehicle, e.g. a fork lift truck, comprises a rear frame 1 provided with a mounting member 2 for mounting the attachment on the carriage plate (not shown) of the lift truck, a midframe 70 being mounted through a rotator assembly 5 on the rear frame 1 for rotation relative thereto about an axis perpendicular to the plane of the rear frame, a carrier plate 77 being mounted on the midframe 70 for movement therealong and on which carrier plate 77 a front plate 75 is hingedly mounted for movement about a vertical axis 76, the front plate 75 having two pairs of forks pivotally mounted respectively on its upper and lower edges, those on its lower edge being the operative pair. If it is desired to handle a load on the left side of Fig. 3 and if the operative pair of forks 231, 232 are pointing straight ahead as shown in solid lines the carrier plate 77 is caused to move to the right in the Figure and simultaneously the front plate 75 is rotated about the axis 76 such that the forks take up the positions shown as 231a, 232a. The carrier plate 77 is then moved to the left so that the forks take up the positions shown as 231b, 232b. If it is desired to handle a load on the right side of Fig. 3 the midframe 70 is rotated through 180 degrees and the carrier plate 77 and front plate 75 are simultaneously rotated therewith, such that the forks which were originally on the bottom edge of the plate 75 are now on the top edge thereof and pivot downwardly by gravity to an inoperative condition parallel to the plane of the plate 75, whereas the pair of forks on the bottom plate edge pivot downwardly to an operative condition. The forks are mounted on the front plate 75 by means of clevis mounting members (226, 227, 228a, 229a) in which fit bosses of the forks, Fig. 1 (not shown). Movement of the carrier plate 77 along the midframe 70 is effected by a pair of hydraulic rams (218, 219) mounted on the midframe, a chain (221) which extends from an anchorage adjacent each of the rams and passes about a chain wheel attached to the piston rod of each ram is anchored at a point in its run to the carrier plate 77, Fig. 1 (not shown). A further pair of rams (81, 82) provide movement of the front plate 75 about the axis 76, Fig. 9 (not shown). Rotation of the midframe 70 relative to the rear frame 1 is effected by a hollow shaft (22) carrying at one end a disc (24) which is secured to the front member (11) of the rotator assembly, the member (11) being attached to the midframe 70, Fig. 4 (not shown). The shaft (22) is mounted on a pin (30) and carries a pinion (27) which is in mesh with two rack sections (21, 21a) formed on two common piston rods extending respectively between ram cylinders (16, 17) and (16a, 17a) which are mounted on the back plate of the rotator assembly, Fig. 5 (not shown), movement of the said two piston rods producing rotation of the shaft 22 and thus the rotation of the midframe 70.
