Abstract

1417063 Grooving pipes BRAAS & CO GmbH 27 Feb 1973 [21 March 1972] 9646/73 Heading B5A The heated end of a thermoplastics pipe 22 is pushed over a mandrel 11 to form a socket. A split mould (2), 3 is closed about the pipe and an annular piston 19 moved to the right to locally thicken the pipe into a mandrel constriction 23 and against the inside of a ring 16 (which is initially positioned further to the right than in Fig. 3). The ring 16 is then moved to the left (as shown in Fig. 3) and compressed air supplied via ducts 13, 14, 15 to form a bead 22b and groove 22d. After cooling the pipe, the split mould is opened, and the pipe pushed off mandrel 11 by the ring 16 and the compressed air. In a modification (see Figs. 4, 5, not reproduced) the mandrel constriction 23 is omitted and replaced by an enlarged diameter bore of ring 16. Ring 16 and piston 19 have adjustable strokes.
