1416909 Stripping cables PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 15 Feb 1973 [18 Feb 1972] 7448/73 Heading H2C An arrangement of knives 11, 13 and blades 37, 39, 41 strips and profiles the end of a coaxial cable as shown. The cable end is first inserted into a bore 5 as far as a shoulder 83. A knife 11 cuts through the sheath and outer conductor at 85 and a knife 13 cuts through the sheath at 87. The stripped end is then inserted into a narrower bore 7, where one or more blades 37, 39, 41 profile the end of the dielectric. Handles 61 allow the device to be rotated to perform both cutting operations. The knives 11, 13 are adjustably mounted by screw sleeves 29 in a block 9 which can be retracted by a handle 15. The block 9 is held in the retracted or operative position by a spring- loaded pin 19 engaging a recess 23 or 21 respectively. The cutting edges 27 are eccentric to the knife bodies 25, so that as the cable is pulled out of the bore 5 the knives rotate and then make longitudinal cuts. The blades for profiling the dielectric are mounted on arms 43, 45 pivoting on a shaft 33 (Fig. 3). The arm 43 is spring-urged to a position set by an adjustable stop 55 and carries blades 41 and 39 for profiling sections 105 and 107 respectively. The arm 45 is initially locked to the arm 43 by a pin 47, and carries a blade 37 which partially removes the end section of the dielectric, beyond the section 107. The pin 47 is then withdrawn, the arm 45 pivots further to an extent limited by a finger 63 engaging the outside of the dielectric and the blade 37 removes the rest of the end section.
