Abstract

1416887 Coated razor blades GILLETTE INDUSTRIES Ltd 17 May 1973 [7 June 1972] 26491/72 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions B4 and C7] Razor blades are coated with, e.g. W, Mo, Cr, Pt, Ti and V or oxides, carbides, borides and nitrides thereof by decomposition of a vaporized compound in an inert or reactive gas. The blades are heated by, e.g. induction, resistance, electron beam, radiation, using a laser or infra-red, a heated contact element or passing a current through the blades. The deposition may take place in a glow discharge. A further coating of P.T.F.E. may be applied. In a specific example a coating of alumina is formed using aluminium butoxide.
