Abstract

1416741 Standby electrical generators ARCHIE KIDD Ltd 16 Feb 1973 [30 March 1972] 15055/72 Heading H2A A standby electrical generator, e.g. a single or three phase alternator driven by the power take off of a farm tractor to provide power in the event of a main electricity supply failure, has mounted inside its easing 14 at least one electrically resistive heating element 26 which is connectible as the generator's load at a time when the generator is not running normally, and is to dispel moisture from the generator's windings 6. The changeover connection between the normal load and the heating element is made by a switch 32 on the alternator control panel 30, and mounted on the armature shaft 4 is a fan 20 which draws cooling air through the generator, a heat shield 28, e.g. of aluminium being provided to protect working parts from being overheated by the element. The alternator includes an armature 2, slip rings 10, field winding rectifiers 12, and is driven via a V-belt from a shaft 18 whose bearings are adjustable to tension the belts.
