Abstract
1416721 Excavator tooth assembly G A PETERSEN 5 Dec 1972 [6 Jan 1972] 56081/ 72 Heading E1F An excavator tooth 21 has a distal cutting edge 55 and a proximal portion, having notches 62, which is received in a complementary recess 39 in a holder 22, being held by a resilient retainer 23 having a pair of legs, each with an upper portion 71 connected by a short portion 73 to a laterally offset lower portion 72, which are inserted in holes 46, 48 in the holder and engage the notches 62 in the tooth. The proximal part of the tooth is formed as two prongs 59 with the notches 62 on inwardly facing surfaces and the recess 39 is divided by a web 43, on which are formed protuberances 47 which engage the portions 73 of the legs of the retainer as it is raised, Fig. 4 (not shown), to prevent it being completely withdrawn while allowing the tooth to be removed; the lower portions 72 of the legs are closer together than the upper portions 71. Alternatively, Figs. 6-9 (not shown), the proximal part of the tooth may be an inverted T- shape with notches (101) on outwardly facing surfaces, in which case the lower portions (72a) of the legs of the retainer are further apart than the upper portions (71a). Various shapes for the retainer 23 are described. Figs. 5, 10-17 (not shown).
