1416516 Dampers GLOUCESTER RAILWAY CARRIAGE & WAGON CO Ltd 9 Nov 1972 [12 Nov 1971] 52772/71 Heading F2S A damper for rail freight vehicles comprises friction means 24, 25 damping telescopic movement between two members 10, 11 and spring means 20 acting through a lever mechanism 15 to maintain the frictional engagement, the leverage varying in accordance with the relative positions of the members. The spring force is initially adjusted by a screw cap 19. In a modification, the friction members are wedge-shaped (Fig. 4, not shown) or carried on pivoted pads (Fig. 5, not shown). In a further modification (Fig. 6, not shown) the spring force is adjusted by a screw, the levers act through pivoted arms and additional friction pads are carried on lost-motion sliding supports.
