Abstract

1416336 Absorbing gases ROHM & HAAS CO 9 Nov 1972 [30 Nov 1971 (2)] 51846/72 Heading B1L Non-polar organic gases are absorbed from gaseous mixtures containing them by using as an absorbent a particulate, macrorecticular, substantially non-ionogenic, water-insoluble polymer having a specific surface area of at least 10 to 1000 square metres/gm a porosity of 25 to 85 percent and an average pore diameter of 20 to 20000Š. The polymer is obtained by polymerising under macroreticular producing conditions either a monomer charge composed of ethylenically unsaturated monomer(s) and containing from 2-100% by weight, based on the wieght of the charge, of one or more of divinylbenzene, trivinylbenzene, alkylvinylbenzenes having 1 to 4 methyl or ethyl groups substituted in the benzene nucleus; and alkyldivinylbenzenes having from 1 to 3 methyl or ethyl groups substituted in the benzene nucleus OR a monomer charge containing from 10 to 100 percent by weight of a polyfunctional methacrylate containing at least three methacrylate groups and 90 to 0 percent by weight of a copolymerisable monoethylenically unsaturated comonomer OR amine oxide sulphoxide amide or ketonic functional derivatives. Numerous examples of polymers and their application are given as well as conventional regeneration procedures etc.
