Abstract

1,129,125. Purifying waters. ROHM & HAAS CO. 11 Feb., 1966 [24 Feb., 1965], No. 6145/66. Heading C1C. [Also in Divisions C2, C3 and C6] Surface-active agents are separated from the wastes in dyeing canneries and laundries by contacting with particles of a substantially non- ionogenic cross-linked synthetic resin having a porosity of at least 10%, a specific surface area of at least 10 sq. m. per gram and which is not swollen by the medium, so that the substance is adsorbed on to the surface of the resin. If desired the substance may be subsequently desorbed. Examples describe as the synthetic resin, copolymers comprising units of divinylbenzene, ethylvinylbenzene, styrene, acrylonitrile and methyl methacrylate.
