1415768 Porous polymethylmethacrylate membrane TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc 16 Aug 1973 [16 Aug 1972 17 Feb 1973] 38720/73 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] Hydrogel semi-permeable films and fibres are prepared from a mixture of isotactic and syndiotactic polymethylmethacrylates. The structures are prepared by dissolving the mixture in a suitable solvent to form a sol, forming the sol into the desired shape, cooling it to form a gel and then replacing the solvent with water. Hollow fibres may be given by extruding through an annular orifice having an inner tube coaxial with the orifice by which a fluid is injected into the fibre. The fibre is then cooled to below the melting point of the gel by contact with a cooling gas, which is preferably the vapour of a coagulating liquid, and then coagulating the fibre by means of an aqueous non-solvent.
