Abstract

1415190 Aluminium derivatives of orthophosphate mixtures BORG WARNER CORP 15 Dec 1972 [17 Dec 1971 15 Nov 1972] 58040/72 Heading C2P [Also in Divisions C5 and E1] An aluminium derivative of a mixture of orthophosphates, the orthophosphates having the Formulae (I), (II) and (III) where R is at least one C 1-5 straight chain alkyl group and R<SP>1</SP> is at least one straight chain C 6-18 alkyl or alkenyl group, is prepared by reacting a mixture of at least 10% by weight of each of orthophosphates of Formulae (I), (II) and (III) with an amount of an aluminium compound equivalent to 0À25 to 0À75 g. atoms of Al per 3 gram atoms of acidic H atoms in the orthophosphate mixture. The reaction may be completed by heating. The Al compound may be a salt or a hydrated oxide and the reaction may be carried out in an inert solvent. The orthophosphate mixture may be prepared by reacting a mixture of the alcohols ROH and R<SP>1</SP>OH with P 2 O 5 . After neutralization by an NH 4 , alkali metal or alkaline earth metal base the Al derivatives may be incorporated as gelling agents into liquid hydrocarbons, the Al derivative optionally being prepared in situ in the hydrocarbon. The gelled hydrocarbons obtained may be used to fracture a subterranean oil-producing formation.
