Abstract

141,484. Barnard, D. J. March 24, 1919. Grab-buckets.-In a single-chain grab of the kind in which the spreader arms 8 are pivoted to two top cross-bars 6, 7, telescopic devices are provided to connect the crossbars, the power or pulley shaft, and the cross-beam 5 to which the bucket-halves are pivoted at 3, 4. The telescopic devices comprise rods 28 suspended from the top cross-bars and sliding in tubes 26 carried by the cross-beam 5. The top pulleys 12 are carried by plates 9 fixed to the cross-bars, and the bottom or movable pulleys 14 are carried by plates 18 to which are fixed sleeves 28 sliding over the telescopic members 23, 26. The gravity catches 22 are pivoted at 21 on the plates 18 and engage pins 36 fixed to the cross-beam 5 to hold the buckets closed. The catches are tripped to release the buckets when a lever 37 engages over the edge of a trip-ring 39 suspended from a centralizing-member 42, the lever 37 actuating a sliding arm 43 which operates the catches 22. The grab-rope 47 passes through a two-part centralizing- socket 50 mounted on the cross-bars 6, 7. One spreader arm 8 on each side is extended beyond its pivot, as at 31, and is connected to the other arm on that side by a link 33. Specification 10153/15 is referred to.
