Abstract

1414742 Milking systems ZERO MFG CO 20 Feb 1973 8235/73 Heading AIM [Also in Division G1] A dual vacuum milking system for measuring milk output and removing teat cups from the cow on cessation of milking comprises a milk receptacle 110 connected to the teat cups 10, a first vacuum line 17 leading to a pulsator 30 and, via a hose line 18 controlled by a solenoid valve 230 to the upper part of the receptacle 110 and the teat cups. A second relatively higher vacuum line 32 is connected via a milk line 111 to a valved outlet in the bottom of the receptacle 110. A milk proportioning device 115 is provided in the milk line so that a proportion of the milk passes into a measuring container 86a. The device 115 incorporates a plug 121 which lifts from its seating 119 by an amount proportional to the volume flow. Contacts 201 are mounted in device 115 so that the solenoid valve 230, which preferably has a time delay, is actuated when the milk flow stops and the plug 121 is lowered to open line 18 to atmospheric pressure but maintaining the vacuum in line 17. Once exposed to atmospheric pressure the teat cup assembly drops from the cow but may be prevented from being damaged by a strap attached to the cow. The valve in the base of receptacle 110 seals the exit to line 111 once the milk has been substantially completely withdrawn. Suitable circuitry incorporating time delay relays is provided.
