Abstract

1414246 Latches ARN KIEKERT SOHNE 15 Oct 1973 [3 Nov 1972] 48530/73 Heading E2A A vehicle door latch comprises a base plate I and linkage system 4 to actuate a latching device pivotable on the base plate I and the latching device consisting of one spring urged forked bolt 6 and a detent 7 the bolt being pivotable in a U-shaped component 3 which has a steel cover plate 8 with an aperture for a striker pin 10 and to accommodate a correspondingly apertured plastics or rubber moulding the U-shaped component 3 and the base plate I being independent units secured in use by bolts 19, 19a against the outside and inside faces of a door end plate 2. The component 3 may comprise a one piece plastics moulding with a recess for the striker pin to enter, and boss 21 through which the bolt 19a passes to act as a pivot for the latch bolt 6 and support for the latch spring 22. The plastics moulding guides the striker pin 10 and supports a buffer to reduce noise in operation of the latch. The detent 7 may depend from the lever system or may project from the cover plate. Pins, collars or tongues may reinforce the U shaped component to limit deformation of the plastics material. The base plate may be made of plastics with bearing and guide elements for the linkage system.
