Abstract

1414172 I C engine fuel supply systems; centrifugal vortex and rotary positive-displacement pumps ACF INDUSTRIES Inc 11 Dec 1972 [16 Dec 1971] 56983/72 Headings F1B F1C and F1F An engine-driven pump 14, e.g. a diaphragm pump, delivers fuel from a tank 11 to a vapourliquid separation space 44 communicating with the inlet of an electrically-driven pump 20, e.g. a centrifugal, vortex or vane pump. The pressure of fuel supplied to the engine injectors 26 by the pump 20 is controlled by a pressure relief valve 28 which permits excess fuel to return to the tank. The space 44 has an outlet 43 with a restrictor 46 through which vapour in the space is returned to the tank 10 through the excess fuel return pipe 30. The space 44 provides a head of fuel for priming the pump 20 prior to operation of the pump 14.
