Abstract
1413334 Lamp posts NEDAL NV 27 Oct 1972 [28 Oct 1971] 49788/72 Heading E1B [Also in Division B3] A method of making a hollow, metal lamp post having a metal inner tube 3 comprises introducing the tube into an outer tube 1 and radially expanding the inner tube beyond the yield point of the material from which it is made to such a degree that its final external dimension is at least equal to the original inner dimension of the tube 1, the inner and outer tubes being formed of a heat treatable aluminium alloy or alloys and, before expansion, the tube 3 having been heat treated but not artificially aged, i.e. brought to the T-4 condition, and the tube 1 having been heat treated and artificially aged, i.e. brought to the T-6 condition access. The outer member of the lamp tube 3 is made from an aluminium alloy and the inner tube 3 is made from a different aluminium alloy. The tube 3 reinforces the outer tube at an aperture 2 therein and it is expanded by a mandrel 4. The aperture 2 may be made 'before the tube 3 is inserted, in which case an aperture'(7), Fig. 3 (not shown) is made in the tube which is smaller than the aperture 2, or the aperture may be cut in both tubes after assembly, Fig. 2 (not shown). The inner tube is secured by adhesive or by being expanded to such an extent that the member 1 is deformed elastically.
