Abstract

1412990 Detecting defects in a glass sheet ASAHI GLASS CO Ltd 15 Dec 1972 57917/72 Heading G I A In a device for detecting defects in transparent material 22 having a figured surface on one side and a smooth surface on the opposite side, a detector 27 is positioned outside the normal beam paths or regions to only receive scattered light from sources 11 and 21, as shown, that has passed through or scattered off a defect in the material. Fig.5 shows a series of equal intensity distribution curves a, b 1 , b 2 due to normal transmitted and reflected parallel light and a series a', b', due to different kinds of defects (inside the glass or on the smooth surface of the glass), and the detector 27 is positioned, as shown, such that it only receives light scattered from these defects.
