Abstract

The glass sheet is illuminated by means of a beam of light, esp. laser light, injected into the glass through its edge, parallel to the glass surface. Defects in the glass reflect and refract the light, so that detectors spaced across the path of the glass sheet or ribbon and receiving light from the top surface thereof, locate any defects. The method avoids interference with light beam by dust attracted to the glass surface.
