Abstract

1412965 Confining waste generated in industrial processes BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 15 March 1973 [16 March 1972] 12326/72 Heading F4X Dust or other waste trimmed from a workpiece by means of a continuously rotating band knife 20 of a splitting machine as it passes between upper and lower rolls 16, 14, is removed and conveyed by a suction air flow through a first conduit means in the form of a hood 22 into a collecting chamber 23 via an aperture in the upper wall 56 thereof. The dust and/or other waste is deposited in the chamber, while the "clean" air stream is withdrawn through a second aperture in the upper wall 56 to pass along a second conduit means 78 to a suction fan from which it is exhausted to atmosphere. The hood 22 is constituted by two side walls 24, a front wall 26 and a rear wall 28. The front wall 26 is cut away at its upper end and is provided with a flap portion 30 secured thereto by screws; the flap 30 carries a pad 34 of low friction wear resistant material at its upper end. Brackets 36 adjustably secure the hood to the machine head 12: The collecting chamber 23 includes a removable bin 150 urged upwardly into sealing engagement with the upper wall 56, which carries a gasket 74, by means of a jacking arrangement. A microswitch 80 is provided to ensure that suction is applied only when the collecting bin 150 is in position. The band knife 20 has a guide 18.
