Abstract

1412938 Calcium sulphate wash liquids FISONS Ltd 12 Oct 1972 [30 Oct 1971 5 May 1972 (2)] 50564/71 20966/72 and 20967/72 Heading C1A Deposition of CaSO 4 .ZH 2 O from wash liquors during washing of CaSO 4 and/or CaSO 4 .¢H 2 O crystals is inhibited by bringing the crystals before or during the washing thereof into contact with where R<SP>1</SP> is an alkyl, alkoxy alkyl or alkenyl group, a substituted alkyl, alkoxy alkyl or alkenyl group or aralkyl group R<SP>2</SP> is R<SP>1</SP> or hydrogen; or a salt thereof, e.g. the alkali metal or ammonium salts. Specified compounds include monoalkyl sulphate esters, dialkyl sulphate esters; sulphate monoesters or alkylene oxide condensates with alcohols, glycols or alkylphenols, alkyl sulphonic acids and mixtures and salts thereof. The washing may be carried out in a number of stages and the additive may be added to the slurry prior to filtration, the filtered crystals or the liquids used for washing. The additive concentration is preferably 0À0002-1% by weight of the liquid phase. The process is suitable for use in conjunction with the wet process for the manufacture of phosphoric acid. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,356,586.
