1356586 Calcium sulphate wash liquors FISONS Ltd 12 Nov 1971 [12 Nov 1970 16 Jan 1971 15 Feb 1971 24 Sept 1971] 53869/70 16 Jan 1971 15 Feb 1971 and 24 Sept 1971 Heading C1A Deposition of CaSO 4 from the liquors from washing CaSO 4 .¢H 2 O is reduced by bringing the liquors into contact with an additive before or during washing, the additive being an alkylaryl sulphonic acid or an alkylene oxide condensate of an alcohol, phenol or an alkyl phenol or derivatives or mixtures of the foregoing. Where the additive is an alkylbenzene sulphonic acid or derivative the alkyl group preferably contains 8 to 16 carbon atoms. A preferred additive comprises 50-80% of a C9-11 alkylbenzene sulphonic acid or derivative thereof with a condensate formed from 5 to 15 moles ethylene oxide per mole of octyl- or nohylphenol. The washing may be carried out in a number of stages and the additive may be added to the slurry prior to filtration, the filtered crystals or the liquids used for washing. The additive concentration is preferably 0À0002 to 0À3% by weight of the liquid phase and a temperature of 20 to 90‹ C. is preferred. The process is especially suitable for use in conjunction with the wet process for the manufacture of phosphoric acid.
