Abstract
1412446 Covering cores by wrapping WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 13 Dec 1972 [15 Dec 1971] 57415/72 Heading B8G [Also in Division H1] To simultaneously insulate a plurality of electrical conductors, longitudinally creased, advancing strips are formed from an advancing sheet of insulative material, and each strip is closed around a conductor fed with the strip and adjacent its crease. Material 1, Fig. 1, is scored by wheels 5, pleated in die 7 and cut by knives 8 to form creased strips 9. Each strip is formed into a V-shape and aligned with a wire 10 by the die 12, is passed through rollers 13 to form the tape shown in Fig. 5, is wrapped and polished in head 14 to form the tape shown in Fig. 1, and is then dried in a furnace. The material, which may be paper, non-woven fabric or film, may be softened by being wetted by spray 15. The wires may be coated with adhesive which may be activated by the wetting spray, or may be solvent, pressure or heat activated. The wire may be stationed in the trough or roof of the creases. Each wire may be introduced to its crease before the sheet is divided.
