Abstract

1412277 Activating reforming catalysts by halogenation BRITISH PETROLEUM CO LTD 20 Sept 1973 [16 Oct 1972] 47542/72 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] Catalysts containing platinum group metals are activated by treatment at 400-550‹C with a gas containing 0.5-20 vol % O 2 , 5-500 ppmv of chlorine in the form of Cl 2 , HCl, an organic chlorine compound or a volatile non-metallic inorganic chlorine compound and 50-20000 ppmv H 2 O, stopping the injection of chlorine but continuing operation at the same O 2 and H 2 O concentrations and the same or reduced temperature, and reducing the catalyst at 35- 550‹C. The catalst may also be sulphided by simultaneously with or subsequently to the reduction treating with H 2 S or an organic sulphur compound.
