Healds and reeds, threading.-Relates to mechanism for selecting warp ends from a beam to facilitate drawing-in through the healds and reed, and of the kind in which a rotary cylinder or worm with a rib or projection on one face separates and selects the yarn ends, and consists in constructing such cylinder or worm with the selecting rib or face adjustable for different counts of yarn. The selected worm A, Fig. 1, is made with buttress threads, the vertical sides of which meet the yarn. A piece B is fitted into a gap in the periphery, and its end b projects to form the selecting-ribs to carry the yarn into the threads a on the periphery. The piece B is adjusted by a screw c fitted into a collar C. The worm threads on the piece B, being staggered with relation to the threads on the worm A, also act to separate any adhering yarn ends which pass on to the worm. For finer adjustment, two cylinders A<1>, A<2>, Figs. 4 and 5, are fitted one within the other, the outer one with a coarser thread. The inner cylinder A<1> has an adjustable piece B with a selecting-face b, and the outer cylinder A<2> has an adjustable piece B<1> with a second selecting-face to lift the yarn ends from the threads of the cylinder A<1> to the threads of the cylinder A<2>, and also to separate adhering yarns. Set-screws c, c<1>, c<2> control the adjustment of the pieces B, B', and the two cylinders are held together by a set-screw fitting into one of a number of holes to allow adjustment. An adjustable rib may be fitted on the face of a cylinder without cutting the periphery, and the cylinder may be mounted to rotate with, and slide on, a triangular or other shaped shaft. The warp ends may be clamped by a swinging bar to increase their tension or their pressure against the cylinder.
