Abstract

1412031 Heating furnace COMMONWEALTH SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH ORGANIZATION 25 Jan 1973 [3 Feb 1972] 3908/73 Heading F4B [Also in Division D1] Heat treatment apparatus for strip material 11 comprises a pair of flexible imperforate webs 17, 18 and an electric heater 19. The strip 11 is fed between the webs 17, 18 at the rollers 14, 20, presser plates 41, 42 and [39, 40] press the edges of the webs into fluidtight engagement, and the strip 11 is passed through the heater 19 between the sheets 17, 18. The webs 17, 18 are of polyester film and the edges adhere to each other, separating again after leaving rolls 30, 32. The strip 11 is impregnated with dye at 31, which is fixed by the heat treatment. The webs 17, 18 are washed in vats 47, 48 before again contacting the strip. Alternatively long webs may be used instead of loops 17, 18, the webs being unwound from separate rolls and rewound on separate rolls after use.
