Abstract

1411893 Seals PAMPUS KG 27 March 1973 14662/73 Heading F2B A seal between a shaft and a relatively fixed guide member having a cylindrical portion surrounding the shaft with a flat end face through which the shaft projects, comprises a retaining thimble 10 which fits over the cylindrical portion and has an inturned flange 14 to retain an annular sealing ring 12 between the flange and end face, the thimble containing a resilient sleeve 18 which holds the ring axially against the flange and retains the thimble on the cylindrical portion. A shim 15 having an integral collar 16 or in combination with a separate, collar may be provided to permit radial displacement of the ring. The ring may include an axial extension embracing the shaft. It may be of polytetrafluorethylene. The invention is shown applied to the valve of an internal combustion engine.
