Abstract

1,034,756. Shaft seals. FEDERAL-MOGULBOWER BEARINGS Inc. March 12, 1965, No. 10631/65. Heading F2B. A unitary seal for protecting the bearings of crawler-type vehicles comprises an oil seal 11, a wear sleeve 12 and an outer case member 13. The oil seal 11 includes a body portion 18 spaced from one end of an inner easing 15 to which it is bonded, a spring-urged oil-retaining lip 21 and three dirt-excluding lips 24, 25, 26 which ride upon a cylindrical metal portion 31 of the wear sleeve 12. A radial flange 32 of the wear sleeve 12 extends into the space between the body portion 18 and a radial flange 41 of the outer case member 13. In Fig. 4 (not shown), rubber-to-rubber contact between the lips and wear sleeve is provided by shortening the axial length of the cylindrical metal portion 31.
