Abstract

1411823 Refining oils UNION RHEINISCHE BRAUNKOHLEN KRAFTSTOFF 21 Sept 1973 [23 Sept 1972] 44374/73 Heading C5E Supersonic aircraft fuel is produced from an oil, boiling within the range 200-270‹ C. by hydrogenation and wholly or partly reducing the content of any aromatics present. In an example the hydrogenation of an oil produced by the steam pyrolyses of naphtha, is carried out in three stages at 200 atm., firstly at 220‹- 350‹ C. over a tungsten-nickel catalyst, secondly at 340‹-400‹ C. over the same catalyst, and thirdly at 200‹ C. over an activated nickel catalyst; residual aromatics (less than 1%) are removed by adsorption on silica gel and the boiling range of the fuel is adjusted to 190‹- 240‹ C.
