Abstract

Aliphatic or naphthenic hydrocarbon feeds are isomerised by contacting with H2 at a temp. of -50 to +200 degrees C and an H2 partial pressure of 0.05-50 kg/cm2 in the presence of a catalyst contg. a Lewis acid, a perfluoroalkane sulphonic acid and HF. The process is esp. useful for increasing the octane no. of straight-run gasoline fractions. The 3-component catalyst mixts. have higher activity than either mixts. of Lewis acid and sulphonic acid or mixts. of Lewis acid and HF.
