Abstract
1411817 Hay making machines C VAN DER LELY NV 9 Oct 1972 [11 Oct 1971] 46516/72 Heading A1F A raking implement comprises two frame beams 1, 2, carrying rotary rake members which are arranged to pivot from a working position (Fig. 1) to a transport position (Fig. 8) in which the overall width of the implement is not greater than the width of two adjacent rake members and the distance between the inner ends 10, 11 of the beams 1, 2, is less than when they are in the working position. The rake members may be mounted on the implement to rotate about substantially horizontal axes but in a preferred construction rake heads 3, 4, 5 and 6 rotate about substantially vertical axes. Rods 14, 15 are rigidly connected to the outer ends 12, 13 of the beams 1, 2 and have their inner ends pivotally are universally pivoted to a member 16 on a draw bar 33 so that they may pivot about a respective horizontal and vertical axis. Draw arms 25, 26 are rigidly connected to the rods 14, 15, the inner ends 10, 11 of the beams 1, 2 and are pivotally connected to the draw bar 33 by horizontal detachable pins 29, 30 which are coaxial with the aforementioned horizontal pivots so that the two frame beams 1, 2 may move vertically and independently of each other in response to ground undulations. The implement is changed for transport by detaching the pins 29, 30, rotating the beams 1, 2 and reels 14, 15 about the respective vertical pivot and interconnecting the outer ends of the beams 1, 2 by a coupling rod 42. A lug 47 is provided on the beam 2 to hold the end of a drive shaft 108 when it is disconnected from a towing vehicle's power take off. Other Constructional Details: The drive shaft 108 is connected to a gearbox 58 which has one output shaft driving the rake heads 5, 6 in opposing directions and another output shaft similarly driving the rake heads 3, 4 via a telescopic universally jointed shaft 106. Each rake head is rotatably mounted via a sleeve to a fixed vertical axle which carries at its lower end a fixed plate halving two apertures offset by 90‹. A ground castor wheel is mounted by another sleeve to a lower extension of the axle and this sleeve carries a spring loaded pin which enters one of the two apertures to correctly orientate the wheel with respect to the associated frame beam in either the working or transport position. Further apertures may be provided in the fixed plates to be engaged by the associated pins so that the frame beams are inclined to the direction of travel A in the working position because of the chosen angular setting of the wheels. Each wheel is associated with a cranked, screw threaded spindle by which the working height of the rake heads are altered. Each of the frame beams may have more than two rake heads and at least one further frame beam may be connected to the outer end of the frame beam 1 and or the frame beam 2 so as to be turnaible about a pivotal axis which is substantially parallel to the direction A.
