Abstract

1411378 Reclaiming thermoplastic material LEESONA PLASTICS MACHINERY Ltd 7 Dec 1972 [7 Dec 1971] 56829/71 Heading C3P Plant for reclaiming thermoplastic scrap material comprises a comminuting device 1 for comminuting the scrap material, means for feeding a stream of water to the communiting device so that the scrap material is communited in the presence of said stream, an exit from the comminuting device arranged so as to discharge the comminuted material together with the water, separating means 4 for separating the discharged comminuted material from the water, means for recycling the water from the separating means to the comminuting device and means for receiving and drying the separated comminuted material. The material, e.g. films, foils, sheets and laminates, may be flaked in granulator 1, the cutting chamber of which serves as a washing drum. The stream may be discharged and separated in centrifuge 4 or by an inclined vibrating wire screen. Water and scum is discharged to tank 12, which may contain immersion heater 19, from which water is recycled by line 3 to the granulator. Sufficient make up water is added by supply pipe 13 to maintain the level in tank 12 whereby the scum is discharged over weir 14. Wet flakes from the centrifuge and hot air from heater 8 are drawn by fan 7 and discharged into cyclone separator 11 by duct 10 which serves as a drying chamber. The flakes recovered from the base of cyclone 11 may be passed to a storage reservoir or direct to an extruder.
