Abstract

1411261 Separating liquids EUROFLOW SYSTEMS LTD 27 June 1973 [30 Aug 1972] 40190/72 Heading B1D Apparatus for removing floating layers such as oil from water comprises an endless belt 2 of closed cell foam neoprene (synthetic rubber), which is supported only at the top over a rotating drum or pulley 1 and whose lower part floats on the water to pick up the oil therefrom, scrapers 5, 6 (of nylon) removing the oil or oil-water mixture from the rising run of the belt and delivering it via troughs (7, 8) into a settling tank 9. The liquid enters tank 9 at positions 19, 20 in a turbulencereducing zone 16, defined between baffles 12, 13, and passes through gap 21 into settling zone 15. Oil 22 rises in zone 15 and passes out through overflow 18, which is slightly higher than overflow 17 which discharges water from zone 14. Zones 14, 15 are connected only beneath the lower edge of baffle 12. Belt 2 dips into a container for liquid mixture (not shown) and typically moves at 2 feet/sec.
