Abstract

1411162 Space heaters ALUMINIUM SUISSE SA 21 March 1973 [23 March 1972 13 March 1973] 13616/73 Heading F4S A converter air heater consists of inlet and outlet header members interconnected by finned tubular columns, the header members being formed separately from the columns and serving also as interconnecting means for the assembly. Convection air ducts are defined around the columns by a cover member either integral or separately formed. Figs. 1 and 2 show one form in which the tubular column la, 1b or 1c is formed from an extrusion. 3 is a channel for the heating fluid, 7 and 8 are convection-air channels, 5 and 5a are fins, and 6 is the cover member. Header members 9 (one being shown in Fig. 2) comprise a stub tube portion 11 which fits inside the channel 3 and is glued therein, and a duct portion 10. Each header comprises a plurality of the members 9 connected end to end to one another by means of flanges 12, 12a and by sleeves (17, Fig. 4) which extend into counterbores (18, Fig. 4) at each end of the duct portions 10. In another form, Fig. 5, each tubular column is an extrusion comprising a tube 103, fins 104 and a back wall 102 on which the upper and lower header elements 105, 123 are mounted. These each have a plate portion 107 which is glued to the wall 102. The header elements communicate with the tube 103 via aligned holes (108, 109, Fig. 6) in the header and tube wall. Sleeves 110 interconnect adjacent header members. The cover 122 is retained in position by ribs 119, 119a on the front face of the wall 102. Alternatively this cover may be an integral part of the tubular column. A connector 117 which may be internally or externally threaded is used to join the assembly to the pipe of a heating installation.
